Optoma PK201: Bottom Line

To some up the PK201 I would have to say that this Pico met most of my expectations and Optoma really has been the clear winner in my opinion based on all the Pico projectors that I have reviewed. They have managed to keep the prices fairly in line with compareable projectors, although their prices are a little higher than most manufacturers. The dimensions of the projector, coupled with its well laid out control panel and menu system, make it a very easy to use projector.

Characterisitics that I particularly liked was how they used the industries common symbols for things like an Enter button and Menu. This makes getting used to the projectors functions far easier. The simplicity of the menu system software took a little getting used to. Less wasn’t more in this projectors case, but a quick reading of two or three pages in the manual and any user should have the projector mastered.

The software that comes with the Optoma PK201 adds a little more inconvenience in terms of being able to show Microsoft Office documents easily, but other projectors in its class that have the ability to read popular office documents without having them be converted often either weren’t high enough res or did not have a high enough contrast ratio either. All factors that produce a great image.

In the end the Optoma PK201 is one of the best Picos in its class and would make a great projector for times when you want a nice super portable projector for displaying images from a smartphone or for a little gaming projector. It’s niche is for those that are looking to have a little fun, but as I have said often, they aren’t the best projectors for those that want to excellent color and the ability to show spreadsheet infornation to large audiences.
